Its like 100 dollars a year to get Office Home which allows 6 users, 1TB OneDrive for each one, full office sweet on desktop and mobile, etc. It's annoying but most companies I have seen are pretty fair. In order for them to keep operating as a company they either have to keep making new versions to keep making money, eventually making a bloated slow piece of software, or they have to charge a subscription.

Eventually, the software becomes bloated and slow because they have to add new features in order to have an excuse to make a new version. They have to keep improving it and adding features.
